Six years ago, I put on my white veil and fins and Six years ago, I put on my white veil and fins and said "I do" to my best friend Stacy in the freezing cold waters of the Florida springs surrounded by our coolest dive buddies and some friendly fish πŸ’πŸ€Ώ A year and a day later, I wore a Swarovski-studded couture gown, and walked down the aisle at the Florida Aquarium. We said our vows in front of the shark tank 🦈 and celebrated with family and friends 🩡🀍 Getting engaged during the 2020 lockdown was a fever dream and as any former coronabride will tell you, planning around a plague can be a wild ride 🫩πŸ₯΄ There were multiple postponements and some tough decisions to be made. Some of our favorite people in the world couldn't make it to the celebration due to travel issues or health concerns. The mandates changed from day to day with no end date in site. Then on top of all that, there were the weird challenges of an underwater wedding. Like having to change location when there's an oil spill at your originally planned dive site. And testing dozens of waterproof eyeliners to find one that wouldn't smudge. And shivering like a little chihuahua during the ceremony because 5 mm wetsuits don't come in white (hey, at least I looked cute!) But years later on my anniversary weekend, all I can remember is how grand it was to celebrate love by land and by sea. Life doesn't always give us exactly what we had planned on paper, but with some flexibility and creativity, you can turn a situation that feels like a disaster into a memory you'll cherish forever. As a wedding entertainer, I'm always preaching about making your celebration unique and honoring YOUR love story above all society-driven wedding expectations. As NAUI certified scuba divers and a very "un-serious" couple, Stacy and I thought a dip in the springs sounded a lot more fun than a run to the courthouse πŸ™ŒπŸ» and our wedding day will live on in my memories forever 🀍 and it's still the talk of all my friends and family.
