  • Professionalism and rates seem to be a hot topic among my friends in the Orlando community this week 🔥🔥🔥 So here is my unsolicited advice for anyone entering the business or wanting to up their game: 1. Find a teacher, mentor or more experienced friend to offer advice and moral support in your journey. Even after 15 years, I still reach out to more seasoned dancers for help - no shame in it. 2. PLEASE learn the rates and respect what working professionals charge. Don't undercut! Going rates are a minimum for pros of all levels. For some of us, dance is just a hobby, but for most of us it's a real business and a means to pay the bills. With the cost of living skyrocketing in Orlando, it makes more sense to give ourselves a raise than to roll our prices back to the 1980's. So let's work together. 3. Put in the work and be in it for the long haul. Yes, there are experienced pros booking tons of cool jobs and posting glam pics on Instagram. Yes, it's normal to get jealous of this as a newbie. Hang tight, work hard, your day will come. It won't come any faster by undercutting, ripping off anyone's style, partnering with predatory booking agents, mystery shopping the competition on lead generating sites, or acting shady. Patience, hard work and inner fortitude lead to "overnight success" you see on Instagram. Whoooa, mind blown 🤯 4. RESPECT THE CULTURE. We are not just sparkly go-go dancers. Every time we go on a gig, we are representing real people and a real culture. Immerse yourself in it and be grateful. We are borrowing our art, so give it back in mint condition. 5. Be Nice. Build relationships. Befriend the "competition." If you're new in town or new in the industry, pick up the phone and call a bunch of pro dancers. Some will blow you off. Some will become your biggest allies and advocates. I personally give back to my friends, whether that's including them in a multi-dancer show, sending them my overflow, or referring them for a specialty I don't offer. Even if you dislike someone in the industry, stay in your lane. Be happy for people in general. I have seen countless pros come and go
Karma always favors kindness. That's it for now...
  • Today's Affirmation: Never let anyone treat you like a yellow Starburst. • Last night my girl @vanjadance and I dressed up in our finest all-white attire and performed at the Diner en Blanc, an ultra chic pop-up Parisian-style picnic 🥂 Here we are in our cozy caftans waiting to brave the cold in our white costumes 🥶 We had so much fun entertaining this stylish, energetic crowd. Thanks to the @dinerenblancorl crew. Hope to see you again next year! #dinerenblanc2019 #dinerenblancorlando #dinerenblanc #whiteparty #orlandonightlife #orlandoentertainment #orlandobellydancers #bellydanceduo #bellydancerinorlando #raqssharki #bellydancer #bellydancersofinstagram #winterparkflorida #downtownwinterpark
  • #BellydancerProblems - When Mother Nature threatens your outdoor gig and you wonder if it would be appropriate to add "Singing in the Rain" to tonight's playlist 🌧💃🏻 If y'all could do a little rain dance for me and my girl @vanjadance we would really appreciate it 🤣🤣🤣 #bellydance #bellydancer #orlandobellydance #bellydancerinorlando #orlandobellydancer #bellydancersofinstagram #bellydancequeens #bellydanceshoutout #danzaarabe #orientalisimo #dancelife #orlandonightlife #orlandoentertainment
  • Some backstage shenanigans before my set at the Shepherd's Hope Famous Faces Masquerade Ball! It was such a joy to dance for this lovely group of philanthropists and doctors at their annual fundraising gala. Thank you @trinaday for making me part of this fabulous event! #bellydance #bellydancer #shepherdshope #bellydancerinorlando #orlandobellydance #orlandobellydancer #orlandoentertainment #orlandonightlife
  • Fall #flashback to Connecticut, a place where I originally called home. Where we had apple picking and fall foliage 🍎🍁🍂 instead of the tropical storms we woke up to this morning 🌴🌧 Still wouldn't trade my adoptive home state of Florida for anything. Life and business are good! #bellydance #bellydancer #orlandobellydancer #bellydancerinorlando #bellydancersofinstagram #floridaproblems #floridaliving #yankeegirlinthesouth
